Glasgow, Jul 25: India made an impressive start to its Commonwealth Games campaign in Scotland, with Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain assuring herself of at least a bronze medal in boxing, while para-powerlifter Jhandu Kumar opened the country's medal tally with a bronze in the men's heavyweight event.

Lovlina secured a direct entry into the women's 75kg semi-finals, guaranteeing herself a podium finish without having to compete in the quarter-finals.

In the boxing competition, Jadumani Singh progressed to the men's 55kg round of 16 after registering a convincing victory in his opening bout, joining Lovlina in advancing to the next stage.

India also enjoyed a successful outing in lawn bowls. The women's pairs team of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh registered their second consecutive victory, defeating South Africa to climb to the top of the Group B standings.

In the men's singles event, Putul Sonowal maintained his unbeaten run, continuing his impressive performance and strengthening his chances of advancing further in the competition.
