Durg, Jul 25: A 58-year-old man died after slipping while attempting to board a moving train at Chhattisgarh's Durg railway station on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Kumar Sinha, a resident of Durg, who was employed as regional manager at Oriental Insurance Company in Raipur and commuted by train daily.

According to railway officials, Sinha had arrived at Durg railway station as part of his routine journey to Raipur. After deboarding a local train, he attempted to board Train No. 22845 Pune-Hatia Express at Platform No. 3 while it was moving.

During the attempt, he allegedly lost his balance and slipped into the gap between the platform and the train. His right leg was severed in the accident, leaving him critically injured.

The incident caused panic at the station, with passengers and railway staff rushing to help. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and station authorities reached the spot soon after being alerted.

Despite immediate assistance, Sinha succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss before he could be shifted to a hospital.

Railway Police took custody of the body and sent it for postmortem examination before handing it over to the family. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the accident.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of attempting to board or alight from moving trains. Railway authorities have repeatedly urged passengers to wait until trains come to a complete halt before boarding or getting off to avoid such tragedies.
