Udupi, Jul 25: "The leader chosen by the ground level workers will be the District Congress president", said Himmat Singh Patel, “Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan” AICC observer for Udupi District.

In a major effort to revitalise its local organization and strengthen party ranks, the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) has launched a bottom-up selection process to appoint the next president of the Udupi District Congress Committee. Speaking during the press conference held at Udupi District Congress Office on July 25, regarding the organisational drive, Himmat Singh Patel stated that the initiative directly aligns with leader Rahul Gandhi’s mandate to establish direct communication between top party leadership and party members operating at the fundamental ground level.

Himmat Singh Patel emphasised that the main goal of the campaign is to build a resilient district unit by granting grassroots workers a decisive voice in choosing their local head across all 10 blocks in Udupi district. To participate in the selection process, aspirants seeking the presidency must formally submit their applications. Candidate selection will focus heavily on three core criteria: demonstrating a strong majority of support among local party workers, maintaining proven party loyalty, and maintaining active, direct connections with ground-level workers throughout the district.

The selection process will follow a structured timeline prepared under AICC guidelines. Observers will spend at least 10 days conducting field assessments to gather feedback from workers and evaluate applicants across the blocks. Following the submission of their comprehensive report, a high-level review meeting will be convened to analyse the findings.

The AICC expects to conclude the evaluation and officially finalize the name of the new district president by the end of August, ensuring the appointment strictly reflects the preference of the ground-level workers.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, former minister Jayaprakash Hegde, Udupi District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, KPCC Campaign Committee president Vinay Kumar Sorake, KPCC Campaign Committee District president Harish Kini, Udupi Block Congress president Ramesh Kanchan, Congress leaders Dinesh Hegde Molahalli, Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, Prasadraj Kanchan, and others were present during the press conference.
