Harare, Jul 25: India produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Zimbabwe by 90 runs in the second T20 International at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

A brilliant batting display from wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan and vice-captain Tilak Varma powered India to a formidable 219/5 before the bowlers bundled Zimbabwe out for 129 in 17.5 overs.

The comprehensive victory also marked Shreyas Iyer's first T20I series triumph as India's captain, while all-rounder Abhishek Sharma starred with the ball, claiming 3 for 17. India also overcame the setback of losing fast bowler Prince Yadav midway through his spell due to a hamstring injury.

After being asked to bat first, India lost opener Abhishek Sharma early despite a brisk start. He struck two boundaries in the opening over before Blessing Muzarabani dismissed him for eight.

Young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his aggressive approach, smashing Richard Ngarava for a six and three boundaries in a lively 20-ball innings. However, Ngarava dismissed him for 20, leaving India at 35 for 2.

Captain Shreyas Iyer then steadied the innings alongside Ishan Kishan, with the pair adding 42 runs for the third wicket. Iyer contributed a composed 25 before falling to Brian Bennett.

Kishan took charge thereafter, producing a superb innings of 81 from just 44 deliveries, laced with nine fours and two sixes. He dominated the Zimbabwe attack with powerful strokes through the leg side, particularly using the pull shot to great effect, and reached his half-century in 33 balls.

Tilak Varma provided the perfect finishing touch with an unbeaten 60 off only 29 balls, bringing up his half-century in just 23 deliveries. His fluent knock featured crisp strokeplay and ensured India crossed the 200-run mark comfortably.

The pair stitched together a match-defining 94-run partnership for the fourth wicket before Kishan departed in the 18th over. Rinku Singh added a quick 12, while Shivam Dube struck a boundary off the penultimate delivery to lift India to an imposing total.

Zimbabwe's chase never gained sustained momentum despite an attacking start from Brian Bennett, who raced to 32 off 19 balls with six boundaries. His entertaining innings ended when he mistimed a scoop shot and was caught behind by Kishan off Shardul Thakur.

Debutant Prince Yadav made an immediate impact by dismissing Ben Curran with his very first delivery before also removing Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza for a duck. However, his spell was cut short after suffering a left hamstring injury during his third over.

Zimbabwe continued to lose wickets at regular intervals as Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Dion Myers, while Shivam Dube accounted for Wessly Madhevere. Tilak Varma also contributed with the ball by removing Ryan Burl.

Abhishek Sharma then wrapped up the innings with a superb spell, dismissing Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri and Richard Ngarava to complete figures of 3 for 17 as Zimbabwe were bowled out well short of the target.
