Beltangady, Jul 26: A court in Beltangady has pronounced its verdict in a fatal accident case where a scooter rider lost his life after being hit by a bike ridden by a minor.

The court sentenced the minor's brother, who handed over the vehicle to him, to one day in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000.

In a strong directive, the judge instructed the regional transport office (RTO) not to issue a driving license to the minor until he attains the age of 25. Additionally, the registration certificate of the bike involved in the accident has been suspended for a period of one year.

The fatal accident took place on the night of July 20, 2024. The minor was riding the bike from Murogoli towards Kalleri. At Turkalike in Karaya, the bike crashed into a scooter. The scooter rider, identified as Shivananda, sustained severe head injuries in the collision and succumbed to them.

Following the trial, the judge convicted the owner of the motorbike, Abdul Hakeem, a resident of Thanneerpantha, who is the minor's brother. Assistant public prosecutor Divyaraj Hegde from Puttur argued on behalf of the prosecution.
