Bengaluru, July 26: Indian Oil has unveiled 'Indane XtraLite Now', a new express delivery service for its 5 kg and 10 kg composite LPG cylinders, marking a significant push towards faster, smarter and more convenient LPG distribution for urban households, working professionals and small families.
The initiative comes at a time when oil marketing companies are increasingly leveraging digital platforms and smaller, portable LPG cylinders to meet changing consumer needs, with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) also recently partnering with Swiggy Instamart to offer on-demand LPG cylinder delivery through a quick-commerce platform.
Launching the service on Saturday, Indian Oil chairman A S Sahney said innovation achieves its true purpose only when it enhances customers' quality of life.
"Innovation has real meaning only when it enhances the quality of life of our customers. The new service combines technology with a seamless and superior service model to deliver a smarter, safer and more convenient LPG experience," he said.
Four-hour Express delivery
The Indane XtraLite Now service combines lightweight, rust-resistant composite cylinder technology with a digitally enabled service platform to provide customers with greater convenience, enhanced safety and improved transparency.
Unlike conventional steel cylinders, the composite cylinders feature a transparent body, enabling consumers to easily monitor the quantity of LPG remaining inside. They are also significantly lighter, corrosion-resistant and easier to handle, making them particularly suitable for urban households and consumers seeking portable cooking fuel solutions.
Among the key features of the service are:
- Express delivery within four hours of booking.
- Delivery at a time convenient to the customer.
- Simplified onboarding with minimal documentation for new connections.
Customers can register for a new LPG connection and book refills through the IndianOil ONE App and the Indian Oil website. The company has also announced that a WhatsApp booking facility will soon be introduced, enabling customers to place bookings through WhatsApp number 7588888824.
The launch ceremony was attended by Soumitra P. Srivastava, Director (Marketing), Indian Oil, along with other senior officials of the company.
HPCL, Swiggy join hands for quick-commerce LPG delivery
In a parallel development highlighting the growing focus on digital LPG distribution, Swiggy Instamart recently partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to launch India's first on-demand LPG cylinder delivery service through a quick-commerce platform, beginning with a pilot project in Bengaluru.
The initiative enables customers to order HPCL's portable 5 kg and 10 kg LPG cylinders through the Swiggy Instamart app for doorstep delivery, expanding the scope of quick commerce beyond groceries and everyday essentials. The widely used 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is not part of the pilot.
Welcoming the initiative, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri described it as a major step towards modernising LPG distribution.
"The introduction of India's first on-demand LPG cylinder delivery through a quick-commerce platform, complemented by digital booking through HP Pay, is a significant step towards building a modern, customer-centric and digitally enabled energy ecosystem," Puri said in a post on X.
The portable cylinders are expected to benefit students, tenants, bachelors, small families, food vendors, café owners and consumers requiring LPG for outdoor or emergency use. Customers do not require an existing HP Gas connection to purchase the smaller cylinders through the platform, with deliveries being carried out by HPCL's authorised distribution network.
While the Bengaluru pilot is expected to be expanded to other cities based on customer response, HPCL and Swiggy are yet to announce pricing, delivery charges, delivery timelines or a nationwide rollout schedule.
Together, the two initiatives underscore the oil marketing companies' growing emphasis on lightweight composite cylinders, digital booking platforms and faster doorstep delivery as they seek to make LPG services more accessible, flexible and consumer-centric.
