Mangaluru, Jul 27: A private express bus carrying 35 passengers narrowly escaped a major tragedy after it rammed into a cement barricade near the under-construction toll plaza at Sooralpadi on the Mangaluru–Moodbidri National Highway 169 on Sunday July 26.
The bus, which was travelling from Karkala to Mangaluru, reportedly swerved to the right to avoid colliding with a tipper lorry that suddenly turned left at Sooralpadi. In the process, the bus crashed into the roadside cement barricades.

The front portion of the bus was completely crushed in the impact. The driver and one or two passengers sustained minor injuries. Local residents rushed to the spot, provided first aid, and shifted the injured to a hospital for treatment.
Bajpe police visited the accident site and have taken up an investigation. At the time of the accident, there were 35 passengers on board the bus.
