Mangaluru, Jul 27: The Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entrepreneurship Development (YEN-REFINED), YIASCM, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, organised a two-day national-level workshop on “Advanced Research Methodologies: Integrating Symmetric (SEM and PLS-SEM) and Asymmetric (fsQCA and NCA) Approaches for High-Impact Research and Publications” on July 24 and 25.
The workshop focused on providing hands-on training in advanced symmetric and asymmetric research methodologies to strengthen participants’ practical understanding and application for conducting rigorous research and producing high-impact publications.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural ceremony on July 24. The inaugural was graced by Dr Aswini Dutt R, registrar, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), as the chief guest, and Dr Atul Shiva, dean (research), Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, as the guest of honour and resource person. The session was presided over by Prof Jeevan Raj, principal, YIASCM, in the presence of Prof Shareena P, vice-principal and dean, faculty of commerce and management, YIASCM, Narayan Sukumara A, vice-principal, and Prof Niyaz Panakaje, coordinator, YEN-REFINED and MBA.
The proceedings were compered by Dr S M Riha Parvin, assistant professor, YEN-REFINED, YIASCM. The programme began with a prayer rendered by Faris Rahman N H, junior research fellow.
During the inaugural session, a special milestone was commemorated with the unveiling of the official YEN-REFINED website by the chief guest, Dr Aswini Dutt R, marking the centre's journey towards completing three successful years since its establishment on August 23, 2023.
Delivering the workshop briefing, Prof Niyaz Panakaje emphasised the growing significance of advanced research methodologies in contemporary academic research. Addressing the gathering, Dr Aswini Dutt R spoke about the indispensable relationship between teaching and research in higher education, emphasising that a competent faculty member should effectively integrate research into classroom teaching.
The resource person, Dr Atul Shiva, delivered an inspiring address by sharing his personal research journey. He emphasised that successful researchers develop an appetite for discovery and innovation, reminding participants to "work on appetite; output is bound to come."
In his presidential address, Prof Jeevan Raj appreciated the remarkable contribution of YEN-REFINED in transforming the research landscape within the institution. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shafeena Abdul Jabbar, junior research fellow.
Over the two days, Dr Atul Shiva delivered comprehensive sessions integrating symmetric and asymmetric analytical approaches through conceptual discussions and hands-on demonstrations using real research examples and analytical software. The workshop, which received 61 registrations, covered structural equation modelling (SEM), partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), necessary condition analysis (NCA), and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Dr Atul Shiva also shared valuable publication strategies and best practices for producing high-quality research.
The valedictory ceremony was held on July 25. The programme commenced with Dr S M Riha Parvin compering the proceedings, followed by a prayer by Mohammad Ashiq, junior research fellow. The ceremony was presided over by Prof Shareena P in the presence of Narayan Sukumara.
Prof Niyaz Panakaje presented the workshop summary. In his valedictory address, Dr Atul Shiva encouraged participants to continue practising the advanced methodologies introduced during the workshop. As a token of appreciation, Prof Shareena P and Narayan Sukumara felicitated Dr Atul Shiva with a memento.
The certificates of participation were distributed by Babitha Shali Lasrado, senior research fellow, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Safa Sayeed, junior research fellow. The seamless execution of the workshop was supported by junior research fellows at YEN-REFINED.
