Mangaluru, Jul 28: With the vision of nurturing a culture of safety, responsibility, and preparedness among young learners, Ladyhill School ICSE organized the 'Safety First Abhiyan' awareness programme in the school hall. The program was conducted for the students of grades VIII and IX under the inspiring theme, 'Prepare, Prevent, Protect – Prevention is Better Than Cure'.
The event was organized to empower students with essential knowledge and practical skills in fire safety, health safety, and disaster preparedness, fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility. The programme commenced with a warm and cordial welcome address by Liyan Fernandes, who extended a heartfelt welcome to the dignitaries, resource person, teachers, and students. In the opening remarks, the importance of cultivating safety consciousness and being prepared to respond effectively during emergencies was highlighted, setting the tone for an informative and impactful session.
The session was led by Sathyaraj, an experienced fire and safety officer and professional freelancer from Mangaluru, whose expertise made the programme both informative and engaging.
Through a well-structured presentation, he educated students on the fundamentals of fire prevention, emergency preparedness, health and safety practices, and disaster management. Using real-life incidents, practical examples, and interactive discussions, he demonstrated how timely action, presence of mind, and adherence to safety protocols can significantly reduce risks during emergencies. His inspiring message encouraged students to develop a proactive attitude towards safety, emphasizing that awareness, preparedness, and responsible action are the first steps in protecting lives and building a safer society.
One of the most impactful segments of the program was the live demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and fire safety techniques, which provided students with valuable hands-on learning experiences. The resource person demonstrated the correct procedures for administering CPR and responding effectively to fire-related emergencies, emphasizing the importance of prompt action and the proper use of safety equipment. Students actively participated in the demonstrations, gaining practical insights into life-saving techniques and emergency response protocols. The interactive session not only enhanced their understanding but also instilled confidence in their ability to respond calmly and responsibly during critical situations. The program was graced by the esteemed presence of principal Sr Therese Teena A C, administrator Sr Ida Barboza A C and vice principal Tr Lavita Correa, whose encouragement and unwavering support reflected the school's strong commitment to promoting a culture of safety and preparedness.
