Vasco, Jul 28: Work on the flyover connecting Dabolim International Airport to Upasnagar in Sancoale is expected to be completed by October, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, Godinho said the contractor has assured the government that the project will be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

The work had been delayed after some pillars were demolished due to height restrictions within the funnel zone of Dabolim airport, as they posed a potential risk to aircraft operations and passenger safety, he said.

"The contractor has now taken up the project on a war footing. Although the monsoon may cause some hindrance, the work will be completed by October," Godinho added.

Referring to the water crisis in Mormugao taluka, the minister said the water supply from the Selaulim Water Treatment Plant is being augmented. As part of the plan, the total water supply to the taluka will increase to more than 100 MLD from the current supply of around 86 MLD.

Godinho said the water shortage issues in Mormugao taluka are also expected to be resolved by October, based on a presentation recently made by Public Works Department (PWD) officials.
