Brahmavar: Illegal transport of Anna Bhagya rice busted, stock worth Rs 3.84 lac seized

Brahmavar, Jul 28: In a joint operation on Sunday, July 28, officials and the police intercepted a lorry and seized rice belonging to the government's free Anna Bhagya scheme, worth lacs of rupees, which was being illegally transported.

Nagaraj Naik, owner of Sri Ganesh Rice Industries in Nada Maskiri, Kumta, had loaded the rice into the lorry. As instructed by the lorry owner, Girish Naik, the lorry driver, K Narasimha, was illegally transporting the government rice to Shaji Trading Company in Kasargod, Kerala.

Acting on a tip-off received by Brahmavar food inspector Vasanth Kumar, a raid was conducted in front of Mahalaxmi Hotel in Manoor village, with the assistance of Kota police station sub-inspector Praveen Kumar and his personnel.

The team intercepted the vehicle and seized 160 quintals of rice packed in 320 plastic bags, valued at Rs 3,84,000, along with the lorry worth Rs 3,50,000. The total value of the seized assets is estimated at Rs 7,34,000.

A case has been registered at the Kota police station in this regard.
