Kaup, July 29: In a remarkable act of compassion, Nishanth R Kundar (36) from Kaup Padur village has given a new lease of life to patients in need by donating his organs after being declared brain dead.

Nishanth, who had been serving as an employee of Maitri Security Services at Malpe Cochin Shipyard for the past 18 years, succumbed after suffering a sudden health setback last week.

The son of late Rama Kundar and late Mohini Kundar, Nishanth was rushed to KMC Hospital, Manipal, after he fell seriously ill. Following detailed medical evaluations, doctors confirmed that he had been declared brain dead.

After discussions between the medical team and family members, the family gave consent for organ donation, taking a noble decision that helped save the lives of patients awaiting transplants. Nishanth’s vital organs were retrieved and successfully transplanted into those who were in urgent need.

Following the organ donation procedure, doctors at Manipal Hospital, along with officials and staff members of Cochin Shipyard, paid their final respects to Nishanth and honoured his selfless gesture before handing over his mortal remains to his family.

Nishanth’s act of generosity has been widely appreciated, with many hailing his family’s decision as a meaningful contribution that continues his legacy of compassion and service.

He is survived by his brother.
