Brahmavar, July 29: Veteran philatelist and renowned stamp collector Daniel Monteiro, a retired employee of SMS College, Brahmavar, has brought laurels to the district by winning silver medals at two prestigious international stamp exhibition competitions held recently in Boston, USA, and Macau near Hong Kong.
At the world philatelic exhibition ‘Boston-2026’ held in Boston, Daniel, who holds a Guinness World Record for stamp collecting, won a silver medal for his exclusive collection of duck-themed postage stamps displayed at the competition.
Adding another feather to his cap, Daniel secured yet another silver medal at the international philatelic exhibition ‘Macau-2026’, held from June 26 to July 1, for his fascinating collection of peacock-themed postage stamps.

With a passion for philately spanning several years, Daniel has participated in international-level competitions held across various countries and has won more than 20 medals for his remarkable stamp collections.
A recipient of several prestigious honours at the national and state levels, including the District Rajyotsava Award, Monteiro is actively associated with leading philatelic and numismatic organisations. He is a member of the Dakshina Kannada Philatelic and Numismatic Collectors’ Association, Mangaluru; Manipal Philately and Numismatics Collectors’ Association, MAHE; Karnataka Philatelic Society, Bengaluru; and South India Philatelic Society, Chennai.
Beyond collecting stamps, Daniel has used philately as a tool for education and environmental awareness. He has organised more than 240 exhibitions featuring bird-themed postage stamps in schools, colleges and various organisations across the region, inspiring students to appreciate biodiversity and develop an interest in nature conservation.
His unique efforts have helped transform stamp collecting into a medium of learning, spreading awareness about birds, wildlife and environmental protection among the younger generation.
