Kundapur, Jul 30: The 1st additional district and sessions court on Wednesday, July 29, sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed fines in connection with a murder that took place in Harkur under the Gangolli police station limits in 2023.

The convicted individual is Raju.

The incident took place on May 14, 2023. According to the prosecution, labourers Sangodappa alias Sangamesha, Sanganagouda, Raju, Mahabalesha, and Yellappa had come to Harkur village in Kundapur taluk for masonry work arranged by the complainant, Nagaraja Achari.

At around 9:15 pm, a heated argument broke out between Sangodappa and Raju over a salary dispute. In a fit of rage, Raju issued a death threat to Sangodappa and fatally struck him on the head with a red stone found at the spot.

A case was registered at the Gangolli police station. Then Byndoor circle inspector Santosh Kaikini conducted the investigation and filed the charge sheet before the court.

After completing the trial, 1st additional district and sessions judge Abdul Rahim Hussain Shaikh pronounced the final verdict.

The judge sentenced Raju to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under section 302 of the IPC. Furthermore, he was awarded one year of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 each under sections 504, 506, and 324 of the IPC.

Public prosecutor Indira Nayak argued the case on behalf of the state. Court monitoring officer circle police inspector Savyateja, current Byndoor circle inspector Shivakumar B, Gangolli sub-inspector Pavan Nayak, and court staff Rekha played a crucial role in securing the conviction by ensuring witnesses were presented before the court on time.
