Udupi, Jul 30:
Several members of the Udupi district Youth Congress were taken into preventive police custody on Thursday, July 30, after they attempted to lay siege to the office of Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna.

The protest was staged near Jodukatte, where Youth Congress workers raised slogans against the MLA over the derogatory remarks he allegedly made during a BJP protest on July 28. As the demonstrators attempted to march towards the MLA's office, police personnel intervened and detained them to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order.

Following the Youth Congress protest, BJP workers gathered near the office of MLA Yashpal Suvarna and raised slogans condemning the Congress. The police maintained a close vigil to ensure there was no confrontation between the supporters of the two parties.

The detained Youth Congress members were later shifted to a nearby police station as a precautionary measure.
