Mangaluru, Jul 30: Former Karnataka minister B Ramanath Rai has urged the state government to disqualify Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna and initiate appropriate legal action against him for allegedly making objectionable and hate-filled remarks against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing a press conference at the District Congress office in Mallikatte on Thursday, Rai said the Nehru-Gandhi family had made immense contributions to the country's development. He condemned Suvarna's reported statement that the family of Rahul Gandhi would be "destroyed", calling it highly objectionable.

He said Rahul Gandhi had consistently fought for justice for students affected by the NEET examination controversy by raising the issue both inside and outside Parliament. "As the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi has discharged his responsibilities effectively," Rai said.
Responding to a question on the appointment of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress president, Rai opined that the post should be given to senior, loyal and genuine party workers who have worked for the organisation. "Those who have joined the party only recently should not be made district president," he said.
Geru Development Corporation chairperson Mamatha Gatti, Congress leaders Pius Rodrigues, Shahul Hameed, Baby Kunder, Abbas Ali, Subhodaya Alva, Appi S, Vikas Shetty, T K Sudheer, Nithyananda Shetty and others were present at the press conference.
