Gorakhpur, Jul 30: In a shocking incident, a Uttar Pradesh police constable was arrested on Friday for allegedly kidnapping, raping, and murdering a 10-year-old girl near the district hospital here.
The accused, identified as Abhishek Yadav, a resident of Ghazipur district, was taken into custody after police traced him using CCTV footage. The footage reportedly showed the young victim riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by the constable.
According to police sources, the girl was abducted on Tuesday evening while returning home after serving dinner to her ailing elder sister, who was admitted to the Gorakhpur district hospital. Her father, an e-rickshaw driver, filed a missing person complaint when she did not return home.

Following an extensive search, her body was recovered from beneath an overbridge on Thursday. Investigators suspect that the girl was strangled to death after being raped, though authorities noted that the sexual assault allegation can only be officially confirmed once the post-mortem report is received.
Police authorities are considering invoking the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against the accused constable. A formal recommendation seeking his dismissal from service has already been sent to the police headquarters, sources added.
