Kollam, Jul 31: A fisherman lost his life while a father and son went missing after a fishing boat carrying 14 people capsized near the Neendakara breakwater in Kerala's Kollam district on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Rajeevan. He was rescued from the sea and rushed ashore, but succumbed despite efforts to revive him, officials said.

The missing persons have been identified as Radhakrishnan and his son Gautam. Search and rescue operations are underway to trace them.

According to officials, the fishing boat Sreekrishna overturned while heading out to sea amid rough weather and high waves near the Neendakara breakwater.

Eleven others on board were rescued safely, with some managing to swim ashore.

Rescue teams are continuing the search despite adverse sea conditions, with strong waves posing a challenge to the operation.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the incident.

The mishap occurred on the day Kerala's 52-day annual trawling ban, imposed during the southwest monsoon to protect marine resources, was set to end at midnight.
