Mumbai, Aug 2: Mumbai Indians have denied reports of ongoing discussions with Chennai Super Kings over a possible trade involving captain Hardik Pandya, stating that no player trade talks are currently taking place with any franchise.
Speculation had intensified in recent days that Chennai Super Kings could approach Mumbai Indians with a trade proposal involving Hardik, with reports suggesting that CSK might offer players, including Shivam Dube, in exchange for the India all-rounder.
However, a Mumbai Indians spokesperson clarified that the franchise's post-season review of the IPL 2026 campaign is still underway and no decisions regarding player movements have been made.
"Our post-season review is currently underway, and we are looking into all aspects of the team. Contrary to reports, we are not engaged in conversations regarding player trades; any trade would only be possible once the review is complete," the spokesperson told Sportstar.
"A range of options and ideas is being evaluated, which takes time, so no decisions have been made," the official added.
Hardik, who was appointed Mumbai Indians captain ahead of the IPL 2024 season after returning from Gujarat Titans, has struggled to recreate the success he achieved as captain of the Titans. Mumbai Indians failed to qualify for the playoffs in the 2026 season, leading to speculation about possible changes within the franchise.
Reports of tension between Hardik and some senior players in the dressing room further fuelled discussions about the team's future leadership structure.
The speculation grew stronger after Hardik reportedly ended his association with Mumbai Indians' talent management arm. However, the franchise has traditionally backed its core group of players, including Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.
With the next IPL mega auction scheduled after the 2027 season, Mumbai Indians could decide to continue with Hardik for another season before making major structural changes. Rohit Sharma, a long-time MI icon, is also expected to retire after the 2027 season.
