Mangaluru, Aug 2: The graduation ceremony of the 14th batch Alchemists, and the inauguration of the 15th batch Horizons, of the post graduate diploma in guidance and counselling (PGDGC), were held on July 31 at St Agnes PG Centre Auditorium, Mangaluru.
The event celebrated the successful completion of the outgoing batch while welcoming the incoming batch to a new academic journey. The distinguished dignitaries present included chief guest Dr Charles Lobo IAS (retd former chief postmaster general and member, Postal Service Board), guest of honour, Dr Sr Venessa A.C principal of St Agnes College, Sr Marie Evelyn, Dr Sr Vinora A C, co-ordinator of Post Graduate Research and Studies and Lugina Miranda, PGDGC course coordinator.
The programme was compered by Nora Dcosta, a student of the incoming batch. The graduating batch, Alchemists, made a ceremonial procession into the auditorium with the dignitaries. The programme commenced with a prayer song and scripture readings reflecting the spirit of interfaith harmony.
Following the welcome address, the dignitaries lit the ceremonial lamp. Representatives from both the batches also participated in the ceremony. A brief report of the years activities and achievements was given followed by insights, by the students from Alchemists.
A video presentation beautifully captured the memorable journey of the graduating batch. The graduating students were presented by Lugina Miranda and chief guest, Dr Charles Lobo, conferred the certificates.
In his keynote address, Dr Charles Lobo highlighted the growing mental health challenges in today’s society and stressed the vital role of counselling in helping individuals navigate life’s pressures. Drawing from his professional experience, he reflected on the emotional impact of frequent transfers and relocations, emphasising the need for empathy and accessible counselling. He described counselling as one of the noblest professions and expressed that he felt honoured and privileged to be a part of the graduation ceremony.
The guest of honour, Dr Sr Venessa, emphasised the growing importance of counselling in fostering mental well-being, empathy and holistic development, noting its vital role in addressing the challenges of modern life.
The incoming batch, was formally inducted through a solemn oath taking ceremony conducted by Lugina Miranda.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Deshma. Faculty members, students and their families joined in fellowship over refreshments.
The ceremony marked a memorable celebration of the graduating batch’s achievements while inspiring the incoming students to begin their journey with enthusiasm, purpose and shared commitment to making a positive difference in society.
