Mangaluru: MESCOM lineman dies of electrocution after climbing live transformer near Ullal

Mangaluru, Aug 3: A 49-year-old MESCOM lineman died after suffering an electric shock while climbing a transformer that had not been isolated from the power supply at Uchil Nayapattna in Ullal taluk on Monday August 3.

The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Zameer (49), a resident of Ambika Road, Pillaru.

According to sources, MESCOM had received a complaint regarding a fault in a transformer at Uchil Nayapattna. Following the complaint, Sheikh Zameer and his colleague, Sangappa, visited the spot on Monday morning to carry out repair work.

Believing that the GOS (Group Operated Switch) had been switched off, Zameer climbed the transformer. However, the power supply had not been disconnected, and he suffered a severe electric shock, which threw him to the ground.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Deralakatte in a critical condition but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The deceased is survived by his wife and a daughter.
