Mangaluru, Aug 4: Train services between Mangaluru and Bengaluru resumed on Monday night after the completion of track restoration and repair works at the landslide-hit stretch between Yedakumari and Shiribagilu.
Rail traffic had been suspended after heavy rains triggered a landslide that deposited mud on the railway tracks.
Following the successful completion of repair works, the Railway Department carried out a comprehensive safety inspection of the restored track. After all technical checks were completed, the route was certified fit for train operations on Monday night.
A trial engine run was then conducted to verify the safety of the track, following which permission was granted to resume regular train services.
However, as a precautionary measure, a temporary speed restriction of 10 kmph has been imposed on the repaired stretch. Railway officials said this may result in delays to some trains during the initial phase, and normal schedules will be restored gradually.
Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mudit Mittal, along with a team of senior railway officials, visited the repair site during the restoration work, reviewed the progress and issued necessary instructions.
Railway officials said the restoration work was completed within the stipulated time through the continuous efforts of the engineering teams, enabling the safe resumption of train services.
