Karkala Town police raid gambling den at hotel, six arrested

Karkala, Aug 4: Karkala Town police raided a gambling den operating at a private hotel in Nitte village of Karkala taluk on August 4 and arrested six persons for allegedly playing cards with money staked as bets.

Acting on credible information, the Karkala Town police sub-inspector and his team conducted the raid at the hotel. During the operation, the police apprehended Sujith, Abhimanyu, Mahesh, Dheeraj, Naresh Kumar and Prashanth while they were allegedly engaged in gambling.

However, four other accused, identified as Yashodhara, Noor Mohammed, Ravi Shetty and Satish, managed to flee the spot.

During the raid, the police seized Rs 16,350 in cash, playing cards used for gambling, and seven mobile phones collectively valued at approximately Rs 17,000. Furniture and other materials used at the gambling venue, including chairs and equipment valued at around Rs 10,500, were also seized.

A case has been registered at Karkala Town police station.

The arrested accused were produced before the jurisdictional court. Police have launched a search for the absconding accused as well as the owner of the hotel, who is suspected of facilitating the gambling activities.
