Chandigarh, Aug 4: Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted two alleged ISI-backed cross-border terror modules with the arrest of nine individuals, including four juveniles, and recovered illegal weapons, ammunition and petrol-bottle bombs, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
Police recovered three illegal pistols, nine cartridges, four petrol-bottle bombs and a stolen motorcycle allegedly used for criminal activities during the operation.
Those arrested have been identified as Vansh Kumar (19), Anmol Singh (20), Harman Singh alias Hammu (24), Sukhdev Singh (30), Sukhman Singh (19), along with four juveniles.
DGP Yadav said the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly operating at the direction of foreign-based ISI handlers who were attempting to recruit local youth for terror-related activities, conduct surveillance of security installations, arrange illegal weapons and disturb public peace.
The probe also revealed that surveillance cameras had allegedly been installed near railway tracks, with footage being shared with foreign handlers. Further investigation is underway to identify other members linked to the network.
Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Bhullar said police teams, acting on intelligence inputs, intercepted Vansh Kumar along with a juvenile associate and recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol and three cartridges from their possession.
Following disclosure statements, police arrested Anmol Singh, who allegedly supplied the weapon.
Bhullar said investigations further revealed that financial transactions related to the installation of surveillance cameras near railway tracks were allegedly carried out through Paytm by Sukhdev Singh on the instructions of Harman Singh, both of whom are currently lodged in Central Jail, Amritsar.
The two accused are also facing an Arms Act case registered at Rajasansi police station, in which four Glock pistols were earlier recovered from their possession.
In another operation, police apprehended two juveniles and recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol, two petrol-bottle bombs and a lighter.
During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that they, along with two associates — Sukhman Singh and another juvenile — had made multiple attempts to execute the conspiracy.
Police subsequently arrested both associates and recovered two petrol bombs and a .30 bore pistol from their possession.
Further investigation into the alleged terror network is underway.
