Udupi, Aug 5: A truck transporting sugar to Kerala veered off the road and plunged into a roadside drain near Udyavar on National Highway 66 on Tuesday evening, August 4, after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. Police have detained the driver, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
The driver had reportedly attempted to park the truck along the roadside near Udyavar. However, allegedly being heavily intoxicated, he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into the roadside drain.

The truck's wheels became lodged in the muddy ground, preventing it from moving further and thereby averting what could have been a major accident.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Personnel from Kaup police visited the scene and conducted an inspection. A preliminary investigation confirmed that the driver was allegedly operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He has been taken into custody, and further legal action is underway.
