Ranchi, Aug 6: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand has arrested five more persons in connection with the alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), taking the total number of arrests in the case to 19.
The investigation is being carried out by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the alleged recruitment scam by examining digital records, application logs and other related documents to determine the extent of the irregularities.
The latest arrests come amid continuing protests by aspirants demanding transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Governor Santosh Gangwar and briefed him on the alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the JPSC and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), as well as the ongoing agitation by students in Ranchi.
During the meeting, the Governor described the alleged recruitment irregularities as a serious issue and stressed the need for a transparent examination process to maintain the confidence of job aspirants.
According to an official release, Soren assured the Governor that the state government was committed to ensuring justice for students and that no injustice would be allowed in the recruitment process.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said several accused had already been arrested and that investigative agencies were conducting raids at multiple locations. He expressed confidence that the probe would lead to a concrete outcome.
Soren also said the government was willing to engage in dialogue with protesting students and would seriously consider their demands.
Meanwhile, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) extended its support to the aspirants, stating that the government would soon constitute a high-level committee to address their concerns and initiate action based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
The protests began after the results of the 14th JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination were declared on July 5. Aspirants alleged large-scale irregularities in the recruitment process and have since been staging round-the-clock demonstrations and an indefinite sit-in in Ranchi.
The protesters have demanded cancellation of the Preliminary Test for the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services Examination and a review of examinations conducted through TDPL agencies.
