Four killed in separate lightning strikes in Jharkhand's Hazaribag, Chatra

Ranchi, Aug. 7: Four people, including two women, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Jharkhand's Hazaribag and Chatra districts on Thursday, police said.

Three deaths were reported from Hazaribag district, while one person died in neighbouring Chatra, officials said.

In Hazaribag, a couple identified as Basudev Mahto (51) and his wife Duliya Devi (48) died after being struck by lightning while working in a paddy field at Kanchanpur village under Katkamsandi police station limits, Hazaribag DSP (Headquarters) Gayan Ranjan said.

In another incident in the district, Baswa Devi (50) was killed after lightning struck her at Choutha village under Barkatha police station limits, officer-in-charge Ashish Kumar said.

In Chatra district, Pawan Kumar Mahto (25) died after lightning struck him while he was travelling from Kalyanpur Market to Hafua village under Piparwar police station limits, officer-in-charge Prashant Mishra said.

Police said further details regarding the incidents were being ascertained.
