Mangaluru, Aug 7: In the wake of a heavy rain forecast by the meteorological department, a holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges across four taluks in the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district for Saturday, August 8, as a precautionary measure.

Acting on the request of the tahsildars under the Puttur sub-division, the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority announced the holiday for the Puttur, Beltangady, Sullia, and Kadaba taluks.

The holiday applies to all Anganwadi centres, government, aided, and private high schools, pre-university (PU) colleges (including all residential schools and colleges), ITIs, and diploma colleges in these four taluks.

The district administration has appealed to parents to remain vigilant and ensure that children do not go near low-lying waterlogged areas, lakes, riverbanks, or beaches. Furthermore, a strict advisory has been issued to fishermen, instructing them not to venture into the sea.
