Bangalore: Lokayukta Court Orders Probe Against Renuka over Seized Liquor

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Mar 24: Yet another Karnataka Minister M P Renukacharya, a most vocal loyalist supporter of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and a Cabinet Minister for Excise, is under the dock with a Lokayukta Court ordering a probe against the minister for alleged violation of excise rules.

The Lokyukta Judge N K Sudhindra Rao ordered Lokayukta police to probe the statement made by Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Bangalore) Mohan Kumar that 16 bottles of expensive foreign liquor seized during a recent raid at the latter’s office were meant for Renukacharya.

Mohan Kumar had also told the Lokayukta police that the 24 litres of expensive foreign liquor in 16 bottles and the cash of Rs 25,000 seized during the raid at his office recently belonged to Renukacharya and were meant for supply for the legislators during the stay of the supporters of Yeddyurappa at the Golden Palm Resort in the city. The legislators were accommodated there at the behest of the former chief minister in his campaign for reinstatement.

The Excise Department Official had made the before the Lokayukta judge, when the former’s bail application came up for hearing on Saturday.

Declining bail, the Lokayukta judge remanded Mohan Kumar to judicial custody till March 26.

Under the Karnataka Excise Rules, an individual can store only six litres of liquor in his premises. It is, however, not clear if anybody can store liquor in office premises.

The Lokayukta probe against the Minister in charge of Excise for violation of the Excise Rules is bound to become embarrassing not just to Renukacharya but also to Yeddyurappa and the Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda.

It may be recalled that Renukacharya has been going overboard in his support to Yeddyurappa that he even went to the extent of demanding Sadananda Gowda’s resignation and had to be finally asked by the BJP leadership to refrain from making such statements.

It seems some of the so called leaders of the B.J.P are in competition to do the dirty things
repeatedly. Surely this is not the way the great politician Hon. Atal Bihari Vajpayee dreamt about the party. B.J.P. is in cross roads and no body is able to control the present scenario and the current party happenings may push the health of this great leader from bad to worst. People has to think twice before electing their leader.

Renukacharya is a good man. He don't drink Scotch. He drink country liquor. Even in nurse case he did not do anything just a kiss. This conspiracy is by his opponents may be Eshwarappa. I liked one thing very much from Ismail comments. That is: We need to have a clean system.. The need of the hour is electoral reforms.. right to reject and right to recall the elected representative. That's a wonderful Idea. This will work better than Lokpal bill.

16 bottles of foreign wine and Rs. 25,000/- whats this? Has this Lokayukta or police has better job to do? If you see the scams at the Center and state, this is nothing... and not a big crime or issue....This is nothing but politically motivated initiative by DVS camp as a retaliatory or revenge politics as Renukacharya is a staunch suporter of Yeddi... Some thing is fishy and selfish... Thats the dirty politics and we cant continue like this. We need to have a clean system.. The need of the hour is electoral reforms.. right to reject and right to recall the elected representative.

As long as the elected representatives are not made responsible for the electorate, these representatives shall not be responsible, shall not serve us...They come to us once in 5 years begging for votes... BUt there is no accountability or court martial... What we need is impeachment of the elected representatives by the electorate...If it happens, these representatives shall not dare to do illegal things fearing losing of their position and chair.

They are the public servants in its true sense and they are not the owners of the position. Its a rented to them for a period of five years. If they perform to the satisfaction of their electorate, it shall be renewed for a further period of 5 years or they shall be asked to leave by voting against them. Thats democracy...But we and our leaders failed to understand the true meaning of democracy...Elected reps must be in touch with their electorate and with the constituency...But its not happening... Only electoral reforms can change the attitude of our representatives and can bring in wel researched positive changes to our democracy...

Mr. Gemini saab, it's not 24ltr in one bottle. 24 ltrs of wine in 16 bottles. it means each bottle with 1.5 ltrs. Whatever it may be just wait for the clean chit certificate from Rakesh Shetty, Dinesh Poojari, Nagesh Nayak etc... because drinking alcohol is not forbidden in India.

Very interesting story and unprecedented also.Certainly, this episode would be embarrassing for BJP party not for DVS or Yeddy,I guess. The reason is that this could be tit for tat from wit in.Always I am writing to my BJP friends that"AAGE AAGE DHEKO....."this is what I mean. Now ball is with Yeddy's court to malign another minister or MLA of DVS camp for sure.
