Bantwal: Gas cylinder blast tears through Vittal home, kitchen destroyed

Bantwal, Aug 9: A domestic gas cylinder exploded and severely damaged a house at Kurumbala in Kasaba village of Vittal on Sunday morning, triggering panic among residents.

The incident occurred at around 11 am at the house of Hameed in Kurumbala.

Hameed had gone to the town when the incident took place, while his wife, Khairunnisa, was working in the kitchen. It was then that flames suddenly erupted near the regulator of the gas cylinder.

Khairunnisa immediately raised an alarm. Hearing her cries, a neighbour, Umar, rushed to the house and helped evacuate the family members to the courtyard, ensuring their safety.

Just moments after they had moved outside, the gas cylinder exploded with a massive blast and was torn apart.

The force of the explosion caused cracks to appear in the walls of the house, while the kitchen was completely destroyed. Household articles, important documents and furniture inside the house were also damaged in the blast. The loss is estimated to run into lacs of rupees.

Soon after news of the incident spread, personnel from the Vittal police station visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Satish Alva, proprietor of Sai Ganesh, the Indane gas distributor in Vittal, along with other prominent persons, also visited the site and inspected the damage.
