Mangaluru, Aug 9: A new chapter in the lives of aspiring engineers has begun at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) with the successful conduct of Deeksharambh – student induction programme 2026–27 at its constituent unit, the Yenepoya School of Engineering and Technology (YSET).
The comprehensive three-week student induction programme was designed to provide newly admitted BTech students with a purposeful and enriching transition into university life. Going beyond a conventional orientation programme, Deeksharambh 2026 brought together academic orientation, technical learning, professional development, student wellbeing, mentoring, teamwork, creativity and cultural engagement.
A meaningful beginning to the engineering journey
Deeksharambh marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the new cohort of engineering students at YSET. The programme familiarised students with the academic ecosystem of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) and the distinctive learning environment of its constituent engineering school.
The induction introduced students to the academic expectations, learning resources, digital platforms, professional standards and student-centric learning practices that will shape their undergraduate experience at YSET. The programme was carefully structured to help students make the transition from school education to university-level engineering education with confidence, clarity and enthusiasm.
Building strong academic foundations
A significant component of the three-week programme focused on strengthening the students' academic and technical foundations. Students engaged in learning activities covering programming in C, mathematics, mobile app development and web design, providing them with an early exposure to computational thinking, programming concepts and application-oriented technology. The sessions were designed not merely to introduce subjects but to stimulate curiosity and encourage students to approach engineering through problem-solving, experimentation and continuous learning.
Preparing future-ready engineers
Recognising the rapidly changing nature of technology and the workplace, Deeksharambh placed considerable emphasis on skills that extend beyond conventional academic learning. The programme included exposure to programming, web and mobile application development, data structures, artificial intelligence, communication skills, aptitude development, professional ethics, LinkedIn profile building and career readiness. These activities were intended to help students understand that engineering excellence is built through a combination of technical competence, communication, adaptability, professional ethics and the ability to learn continuously.
Nurturing wellbeing, values and responsible citizenship
At YSET, student development is viewed as a holistic process. Accordingly, Deeksharambh incorporated important sessions addressing mental wellbeing, stress management, anti-ragging awareness and the Nasha Mukth Bharat initiative. The programme also addressed student decorum and mentoring, reinforcing the importance of responsible behaviour, mutual respect and a safe and inclusive campus environment. The message was clear: becoming a successful engineer requires not only knowledge and skills but also character, empathy, responsibility and emotional resilience.
From individuals to a learning community
One of the defining elements of Deeksharambh was its emphasis on peer bonding and collaborative learning. Through ice-breaking activities, team-building exercises, communication games, mentoring sessions and interactive activities, students had opportunities to overcome initial inhibitions, build friendships and develop the confidence to participate actively in their new academic environment.
