Leopard electrocuted while trying to prey on dead peacock in Chitradurga

Chitradurga, Aug 10: A tragic incident in which a peacock and a leopard died after being electrocuted was reported from Kabbinakere village in Hosadurga taluk of Chitradurga district.

The peacock had climbed onto an electrical transformer connected to the power supply for the village drinking water pump set. It accidentally came into contact with a live wire and was electrocuted.

Meanwhile, the leopard climbed onto the transformer in an attempt to hunt and feed on the dead peacock. It too was electrocuted after coming into contact with the live electrical supply and died on the spot.

Forest Department officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection. They have taken up measures to remove the carcasses of the dead peacock and leopard.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident under the jurisdiction of Hosadurga police station.
