New Delhi, Aug 11: A 2022-batch trainee IPS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre and two police personnel have been named as accused in a complaint alleging that Rs 1 crore was sought and received to settle a cyber fraud case.
The matter has reached a special CBI court in Delhi, which has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Chhattisgarh Director General of Police and the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Trainee IPS officer Rahul Bansal, Assistant Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar Rathore and constable Anshul Sharma have been named in the complaint. The complainant has also submitted alleged digital evidence concerning the purported transactions and communications, including WhatsApp chats and call recordings.
According to the complaint, Bansal had previously worked as an Income Tax inspector before joining the Indian Police Service. After entering the IPS, he received his first field posting as a CSP in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district, where the allegations relating to the cyber fraud case surfaced.
The complaint alleges that the purported Rs 1 crore payment was not made in a single transaction. Instead, the amount was allegedly transferred through hawala channels in two instalments of Rs 50 lakh each in May 2026.
The complainant has approached the Delhi court with alleged evidence relating to the transactions and conversations between the parties. The material reportedly includes WhatsApp exchanges and recorded telephone conversations, which are now part of the proceedings.
The court has sought the ATR from the Chhattisgarh DGP and the CBI director to ascertain what action has been taken so far on the complaint and the allegations against the three accused.
The report is also expected to clarify whether the allegations are being investigated by the concerned authorities and what steps, if any, have been taken in connection with the purported payment.
The allegations are yet to be established, and the accused will have an opportunity to respond to the claims as the matter progresses.
