Bantwal, Aug 12: Allegations of a gas refilling racket have emerged following the gas cylinder explosion at Kurumbala, with questions being raised over whether an attempt was being made to conceal the actual facts of the incident. Against this backdrop, a team of senior police officers conducted an inspection at the house.
Police said that the two cylinders found at the house — one that was burnt and charred and the other that was found shattered — were of the same type and were not commercial-use cylinders.
Police recorded the statement of the woman who was present at the house and inspected the gas cylinders. There were two cylinders in the house. It is said that the cylinder in use contained gas, while the other was an empty cylinder. One of the cylinders was completely shattered in the incident. The disappearance of the regulator has raised suspicion.
Officials of the gas company visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Revenue Department officials also visited the site and collected information.
It has come as a surprise that the gas agency owners have alleged that a gas refilling racket was being operated at the damaged house. Since domestic and commercial-use gas cylinders are currently being supplied adequately, questions have arisen over the purpose of carrying out refilling.
Discussion over gas cylinders has intensified among the public, and there is a demand for a proper investigation before the incident takes another turn.
