Panaji, Aug 12: Goa's 5.15-km Porvorim-Guirim Elevated Corridor on NH-66 is set to be inaugurated next month, with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari expected to open the long-awaited project.

Goa PWD Minister Digambar Kamat, during his recent visit to New Delhi, met Gadkari and invited him to inaugurate the elevated corridor. Gadkari has reportedly accepted the invitation, with September 10 finalised as the tentative inauguration date.

Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 641 crore, the six-lane elevated corridor is aimed at easing traffic congestion along the busy Porvorim stretch and improving traffic flow between Panaji and North Goa.

The project also includes plans for beautification and development of public spaces beneath the elevated structure.

Landscaping is proposed around more than 80 pillars, while the areas underneath the corridor are planned to be transformed into recreational and other usable spaces.

The corridor is expected to provide a smoother traffic movement through the Porvorim-Guirim stretch and strengthen connectivity between Panaji and North Goa.
