Udupi: Congress Leaders Thank Voters, Train Guns on BJP

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Mar 25: A Congress party get-together was organized at Royal Gardens here on Sunday March 25 to express gratitude to voters and party workers who helped Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde win the Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll last week.

Apart from J P Hegde, the event was graced by Congress bigwigs like state opposition leader Siddaramaiah, Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes, former KPCC president R V Deshpande, union minister for railways K H Muniyappa, union minister for corporate affairs Dr Veerappa Moily, KPCC president Dr Parameshwar, and other Congress leaders like D K Shivkumar, C M Ibrahim, Pramod Madhwaraj and many others.

Addressing the gathering, Siddaramaiah said that Udupi is a district of intelligent people, and that their decision to choose Congress is a big gain for the party, one that has boosted its image.

Taking digs at the BJP-led state government he said, "Today morality has gone to the dogs. Yeddyurappa was talking of character and morality sometime back but today there is enough corruption to put the people to shame. Karnataka's resources have been looted and destroyed."

Moily in his address said that the bypoll victory is a real win for the party. BJP had taken taken it for granted that they would win the byoll just because they are in power. "But the voters used 'Sudarshana Chakra' against them in the election," he added.

He further said, "Congress sees all religions and creeds as one. It is a secular culture which it has been following for ages. We will work with a vision, and work tirelessly. Congress victory lies in the victory of people."

R V Deshpande called the BJP administration a 'curse' upon the people of Karnataka, a curse that has been broken by the Congress victory in bypoll. He also advised the partyworkers to win the confidence of the people and serve them selflessly.

Oscar Fernandes thanked the people, the Congress party workers and leaders, local leaders and everyone who played a part in the bypoll victory.

J P Hegde thanked Congress national president Sonia Gandhi for placing her confidence in him. "It is my duty to ensure that the self-respect and pride of my people is not hurt in any manner. I will always remain approachable to the people, and will never forget them.

Dr Parameshwar specially thanked the fishing community and the flower vendors who voted for Congress, and urged the party workers to win the hearts of the people.

"Chief minister Sadananda Gowda is granting crores of rupees to Mutts in vain. It is not going to help in any way," said C M Ibrahim. He also questioned why tainted former minister Janardhana Reddy was given TV and sofa set inside the jail, and added that corrupt politicians should not be allowed to contest in elections.

I must say you are a communal man which is not surprising at all!!! Half baked knowledge is more dangerous than the lack of knowledge & it is clear in your case.
Regarding the gifts given to the temples by the devotees are for the welfare of the Temple & community & not for the Priest & these gifts are locked in a separate treasury which is opened by the Temple committee which is a group of eminent people from the locality. Only dakshinas are for the priest for performing the religious duty.
As you said Hindu religion is a good religion bcoz. We don’t preach JIHADI culture & spreading religion by sword. And I think we can learn very little from a community which issued FATWA for not to sing national anthem VANDE MATARAM…
And abt. your views that Brahmins will starve without religion is another example of your communal side….Brahmins are the most intelligent/brainee people in this country & which is there to see for everybody. You must have experienced it in your school & college days unless you have studied in madarasas which are terrorist factories.
Ancient Society was built as per Hindu ideology i.e Brahmin should posses only knowledge & by rendering his knowledge he will earn his livelihood..i.e Dakshina & so on so forth….
You should look at Pakistan which is being run on Islamic ideologies & see the outcome. India is being built & run on Hindu ideologies(Ashoka Chakra on the National Flag) which is now world’s largest democracy multilingual multi-religious & on top of all… one of the fastest growing economy.

Hegde joined Congres bcz of it's secular values, he knows BJP is communal. This Mandade to Hegde no doubt it's against BJP n for Congress. BJP supporters are here trying to win despite defeat with 101 excuses. Now Hegde will develop this constituency in such a way that it will become permanent congres base for another 17 yrs. Udupi district people are littrate n highly educated n it's bcz of congress support to schools n colleges, convent schools.

Quota for backward class's. Little Rock is no. 1 school in whole Asia. Last general election BJP came as Tsunami and damaged the entire Karnataka state, economically, ethically. Made us no. 1 corrupt state in the whole world. Hope congress will rebuild the state after next general election. We will be No. 1 in development. This BJP cancer has to be wiped out from state. Jai HO Hegde. Mr. Poojary is not their on stage bcz he went to condol Mr. Sunil Kumar after defeat.

When we got our indepndence from British Raj, where were your BD/RSS/SRS/SS/ABVP...They were not existant...When they were not there, how come one can say because of these India is still in tact..I am sure... because of this India shall break into pieces...Party that cant hold its own MLAs and MPs together, how come it hold all of India together...A party that cant hold its members together can it hold all citizens together.... Joke ... ha.ha. he.he...I just have to laugh....Can you please give me one example of what these organisations have done for our country except for minority bashing, pub attacks, rave parties, watching porn in assemblies, looting mineral wealth, demarking govt lands...raping nurses, resort parties...birthday celebrations..land mafia, sand mafia...beating up of their own countrymen but from other faiths...Truth is always bitter and cant be disgested so easily... Dont think that sun shines in your courtyard only..it shines in others courtyard too..YOur party or these organisations cant hold the unity of Udupi Ashtmutts, how come you hold the unity of other faiths....

If JP was in BJP, sdpi would have made sure he looses.
Just because he was in Congress that sdpi did not withdrew from election, SDPI would have easily got 50000 votes, which was the deciding factor for JP to win.

JPH being a hindu, by contesting this election against BJP, has he betrayed his own reliigion????? NO not at all. He helped to revive the hindutva...Minorities voted for him and ever since we got independence, no minority eexcept Oscar contested the election and all minorities have voted for hindu candidate. Why JPH being a hindu didnt know what his religion speaks and what he should do for his religion. Who gave the authority to BJP to proclaim themselves as saviours of hinduism where in fact they are destroyers of their own religion, no hinduism is at risk in India.

Its a good religion and preaches peace and harmony. Are all those hindus who supported congress and who defeated BJP were betrayers of their religion????? NO they are the true hindus who wanted peace and harmony in the society. Like majority of mulsims denounce fundamentalism , most of the hindus too denounce and condemn fundamentalism... Fundamentalism is the idea and concept of brahminism who wanted to remain on top of social ladder and continue to suppress and exploit other hindus and make their living out of the income of non brahmin folks...Without religion, I am sure, all brahmins will starve as their means of livelihood will be at stake.. This is a systamatic and deep rooted provision for the nourishment of upper caste brahmins. People can pray to their God at home, no need to go to tmeples. |Dargah is a foreing concept in Islam.

People go to church and masjids but to pray. They dont take offerings and money or gifts. Money, gifts and offerings are practiced in temples and mutts. The givers are poor and ignorant and receivers are clergies and upper caste people...So the message this election gave out is that we are not interested in hinduism or nepotism, but we are interested in peace and development.....We all unitedly should defeat communual and fascist forces..who mislead the public and create communual violence just to polarise the votes and the society...History is rewritten.

If Mr. Hegde had joined BJP, he would have never won this election. BJP has only one weapon to hypnotize people and so they scream from top of their voice the slogan,"Hinduism". Only due to this, they managed to get so many votes. Mind you, Mr. Hegde is also a Hindu, but we all minority love this gentleman.

This is a fluke victory nodoubt, it was just people didnot want Sunil Kumar in Udupi, it was just the wrong candidate BJP fielded, and now with JP winning if he follow the footstep of Oscaranna, then looks like it will be the end of Congress in this area for sure, 4 terms without benefit, only a NICE MAN tag, and people are saying the same to JP, but we need some developement, hope JP will not be a another door keeper in delhi, like Oscar/Moily/Poojary, etc, all these Congress Bigwigs are just slaves of the high command, that is the reason, all the plum deals go to the neighbouring states and we get a dull deal, JP has a life time chance to prove he can deliver, forget about the past. and coming to Udupi muncipality, Congress can never dream, BJP has been doing excellent job, and again to the BJP field candidates wisely not with distrubed agenda, people are wise and the judge rightly

The victory of JPH must be analysed in the light of party's ideologies vs ones personality. JPH's victory is the culmination of both. This victory is an eye opener for both national parties. Voters have given the message to Congress that they vote for good and clean candidates and reject the corrupt and bad lot and to BJP the message is that they dont want devision and communualism. JPH's clean personality, his grass root level contacts with the public made the voters to vote for him. Sunil Kumar has never ever spoken of the people he wishes to represent(in his website) but gave a message of fundamentalism on hindutva..which made the many voters to reject him.Like most muslim reject islamic fundamentalism, hindus too denounce it. The message given out to the Central and state leadership by our people is that they only need good and able candidate who can work for them and truly represent them and must be corrupt free. Congress should not boast this victory as its own but should attribute the success to the cleaner and popular image of its candidate..Once upon time people used to vote for any candidate contnesting from congress. Now scenario has changed. Electronic media reaching villages in vernacular languages has made even the rural citizen to have first hand knowledge of scams, development, corruption and sins in political elite circle. People are more concerned about their future, developments, price rise. they are not concerned about religion. Tax payers money is wasted in resort politics, grants to masjids, mutts and temples, inaugural ceremonies etc. The candidate must be a promising one like JPH. I would call upon all big congress leaders in the dias thank JPH first and then to the voters. But for JPH, this victory would have been a dream for congress. Only clean political personalities can bring in desired changes and not the party or its corrupt leaders. If Kalmadi contnested, I am sure, he would have lost his deposit. Dont beat your chest with pride...

Do not get frustrated so much by one win of Congress. If Yedyurappa goes with on his antics and do not allow Sadananda Gowda to function then more debacles are in store for BJP. Reserve some of your frustration till that time.

I agree with Mr. Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai.But this also holds good to BJP in state. They have looted this state to the maximum and now they have to do some good work under Sadananda Gowda who is much better than cunning Yedyurappa.

This time around almost all Congress stalwarts rallied together wit JPH.Candidate's personality,BJP's Corruption and bad governance coupled with Yeddy's absence from active canvassing in the by election of U.C constituency made Congress to win comfortably.

Second important factor is Bellary brother's non finance to note for vote was by and large not existed.

Third important factor factor was that also from UDUPI region,BJP MLA'S (Raghupathi BHAT)wife episode which forced women folks to vot congress en mass.

Fourth Factor was SUNIL KUMAR..He acted as Karnataka's THOGAIA during his MLA time and thereafter.
