Sullia, Mar 25: Two young persons including a little girl lost their lives when a pick-up truck dashed into a group of people at Duggaladka here on Sunday March 25. The person who drove the truck is said to be a minor.

The deceased are Gopalkrishna (23), son of Janardhan Maniyani and Ratnavati of Mundokaje, and Sushmita (10), daughter of Pannirselvam and Selvi of Kandadka. Gopalkrishna was employeed in a car showroom and Sushmita was a class V student of a government school.

Venkatappa Gowda, Umesh Kukkujadka and Geeta were injured in the incident.

Some people had gathered at Kandadka near Duggaladka on Sunday and were engaged in a game of tug-of-war. The pick-up truck was parked nearby. Sources said that a youngster, identified as Devidas aged about 16 or 17, started the vehicle and moved suddenly, dashing into Sushmita and Gopalkrishna who were standing close by.

The truck then hit against a nearby electric pole, which fell on the three persons who were injured.

Sushmita died on the spot while Gopalkrishna breathed his last on the way to hospital.

Devidas fled the spot and has been absconding since then.

As soon as the news spread, locals gathered in large numbers at the hospital where the injured have been admitted.

MLA S Angara, zilla panchayat standing committee president Naveenkumar Menala and many local leaders too arrived at the hospital.

Sullia police have registered a case.

TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT SHOULD START A PROPER AND STRONG SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TOGETHER WITH LIKE MINDED INSTITUTIONS INCLUDING SCHOOL- COLLEGES (EXCLUDING RSS /BD ). AT LEAST NO ONE SHOULD LOOSE THEIR LIFE ON THE ROAD FOR NOTHING!!!

AS A FIRST STEP OF CAMPAIGN
    1) SHOULD CHECK THE LICENSE
    2) CONDITION OF VEHICLE
    3) ALCOHOL TEST
    4) AGE OF THE DRIVER ( SOME BUS DRIVERS ARE MORE THAN SIXTY AND ABOVE AND STILL DRIVING )
    5) RULES AND REGULATIONS OF TRAFFIC
    6) RIGHTS OF PEDESTRIANS AND VEHICLE OWNERS IN CASE OF ACCIDENT
    7) FIRST AID BOXES IN PASSENGER BUSES

May the soul of Gopalkrishna and Sushmita rest in eternal peace and give comfort to the bereaved families and friends. Devidas God will never forgive you and you will go to hell but before that you will spend you life in jail unless someone influential person release you by bailing you out. This happens most of the time in this country. The surprising thing is that nobody saw her when she vanished in thin air. There was a game of TUG-OF-WAR going on and nobody noticed her when this terrible incident took place. She moved down and killed two people and thereafter hit a nearby electric pole injuring three people. The Sullia police should investigate and arrest the culprit as soon as possible. Two innocent lives are lost due to a minor driving without a licence.

It is illegal to leave the key in any unattended vehicles. The owner of the vehicle too is equally resposible for this unfortunate tragedy. RIP

Too tragic. Never know how death occurs. Heartiest sympathies to the family of the dead may the souls of the dead rest in peace.

Look forward to DW's further reporting about who this youth was or whether he was related to the owner of the vehicle.
