Mangaluru, Aug 13: A two-day national workshop titled 'The research scholars toolkit: Building skills in scoping review and reference management' was successfully organized by the department of child health nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences (NUINS), Nitte (Deemed to be University).
The workshop was conducted under the able guidance of Dr Prof Sujatha R, head, department of child health nursing, with the aim of enhancing the research competencies of faculty members, research scholars, and students in evidence synthesis, scoping review methodology, literature searching, and reference management.
The workshop was inaugurated by the esteemed chief guest, Dr Sripada Mehandale, chief coordinator, Nitte University Medical Simulation Center and professor, department of anesthesiology, KSHEMA, in the presence of Dr Prof Sabitha Nayak, vice principal, NUINS.
The workshop brought together eminent research experts as resource persons. Prof Dr S J Nalini, principal, Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Nursing, SRIHER DU, Chennai; along with Dr Urmila U, associate professor, faculty of nursing, SRIHER DU, Chennai, and Dr Gopakumar V, head, Knowledge Center, Digital University, Kerala, served as the resource persons and shared their valuable expertise with the participants.
The sessions focused on the fundamentals and applications of scoping reviews, literature search strategies, evidence synthesis, research organization, and effective reference management. The interactive and hands-on sessions provided participants with practical skills and greater confidence in systematically planning, conducting, and documenting research. The workshop emphasized the importance of adopting structured, transparent, and evidence-based approaches in contemporary nursing research.
The workshop was organized by Jeevitha Alva, assistant professor, department of child health nursing, and organizing secretary, with the valuable support of Sheryl Fernandes, lecturer, department of child health nursing, and joint secretary. The dedicated organizing committee comprising Dr Sharlet, associate professor; Francilla Soniya; Supreetha Mendon; and Mercy Metilda, from the department of child health nursing, played a significant role in the smooth and successful conduct of the workshop.
The two-day programme provided an enriching academic platform for knowledge sharing, skill development, and professional networking, thereby strengthening research capacity among nursing professionals and scholars. The workshop concluded with sincere appreciation to the chief guest, resource persons, organizing team, and all participants for their valuable contribution and active participation in making the program a successful and meaningful academic initiative.
