Mangaluru, Aug 13: The spirit of patriotism came alive at Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, Mangaluru, through a vibrant series of Independence Day competitions held as part of the week-long celebrations for students from grades I to XII. The competitions added colour, creativity and meaning to the celebrations, inspiring young Carmelites to celebrate the nation with pride and passion.

The patriotic fervour sparked in the young learners of grades I to IV with a series of age-appropriate competitions. Grade I students set the mood with patriotic singing with props, while grade II transformed paper plates into colourful artworks through “A Plate Full of Patriotism.” Grade III learners turned recycled materials into useful tricolour-themed pen/pencil stands under “Wealth Out of Waste,” while grade IV students creatively designed an Independence Day newspaper front page, featuring patriotic headlines, stories and visuals.

Students of grades V to X participated in an exciting array of competitions, including tricolour flower bouquet for grade V, wall hanging making for grade VI, salad dressing for grade VII, rangoli for grade VIII, and vegetable and fruit carving for grade IX. A special highlight was the grade X patriotic shadow box-making competition, themed “Unsung Heroes: The Faces Behind India’s Freedom,” which brought the stories of lesser-known freedom fighters to life through imaginative three-dimensional compositions.

Senior secondary students expressed their thoughts on freedom, national pride and the aspirations of a young India through original poetic verses in the poetry writing competition.

Across all categories, students were encouraged to showcase creativity, originality, craftsmanship, neatness, presentation and thematic relevance. Their enthusiastic participation and thoughtful creations demonstrated that patriotism can find expression not only in words and songs, but also in art, innovation and imagination.
