Mangaluru, Aug 14: Mangaluru city police have registered a total of 7,490 cases during special traffic drives conducted over the past two months to prevent road accidents, ensure effective traffic regulation and facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles within the city.

Within the Mangaluru City police commissionerate limits, a total of 7,490 cases have been registered since June 2026 against violations including no-parking, footpath parking, improper parking, double parking, traffic obstruction and other parking violations that affect pedestrian safety and the smooth movement of public vehicles. A total of Rs 3,07,600 in fines has been collected. Of these cases, 1,080 involved footpath parking.

Similarly, a special drive was conducted from August 4 to August 12 to prevent the use of fake and defective number plates and the commission of criminal activities using such vehicles. During the drive, cases were registered against 258 vehicles with defective number plates and against 74 vehicles that were being driven without number plates.

A total of 332 cases were registered in this drive, and fines amounting to Rs 3,01,000 were imposed, the Mangaluru City police commissioner’s office said in a statement.

Police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said it is the responsibility of every vehicle owner to ensure that number plates are clearly displayed and fitted in accordance with the rules and in the manner prescribed for the vehicle. He urged vehicle owners to install the prescribed HSRP number plates and directed motorists to strictly follow traffic rules.
