New Delhi, Aug 14: Several key establishments in the national capital, including Delhi Airport, the Delhi High Court and the Red Fort, received bomb threats on Friday, prompting heightened security measures ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Authorities received a threatening e-mail warning of possible blasts on August 15 and naming several locations across Delhi as potential targets. Security agencies immediately launched searches at the threatened sites, but no suspicious object has been found so far.

The e-mail specifically threatened the Delhi High Court, district courts, the Red Fort and trains in the national capital. It also referred to an attempt to make Delhi a part of Khalistan.

The subject line of the e-mail read, "BOMB Blast Delhi High Court @ 2:11 PM," with the sender claiming that an explosion would take place on August 15.

The sender also alleged that the Delhi High Court had failed to deliver justice in cases involving Sikhs, including matters related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, and cited these allegations as the purported reason for the threatened attacks.

Several other establishments receive threats

Apart from the locations named in the e-mail, bomb threat calls were also received regarding several other establishments, including Jam Nagar House, the FLATED building at Jhandewalan, the DM office in MB Saket, Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport and the SDM office in Delhi Cantonment.

Fire department teams and other emergency personnel were deployed at all the locations following the threats. Officials said searches were conducted but no suspicious object or material was found.

Security agencies have intensified surveillance across Delhi, particularly around sensitive installations, as the national capital prepares for Independence Day celebrations.

Delhi Police puts up posters of 19 wanted terrorists

Earlier this week, Delhi Police stepped up security arrangements across the city ahead of Independence Day, citing possible threats from Pakistan-based terrorist organisations, Khalistani elements and the possibility of sudden protests.

As part of the security measures, photographs of 19 wanted terrorists associated with the Indian Mujahideen, Al-Qaeda and Khalistani groups were displayed at various locations across Delhi.

Officials said the elaborate security plan was prepared based on intelligence inputs indicating possible threats from Pakistan-based terror organisations and Khalistani elements. Authorities are also monitoring the possibility of sudden protests that could disrupt Independence Day celebrations.

Police officials said multiple security and intelligence agencies would work in close coordination to ensure the celebrations are conducted smoothly and securely.

The security arrangements were finalised following a detailed assessment of the prevailing threat perception and recent intelligence inputs.
