Mangaluru, Aug 14: The special satellite phones recently introduced by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) are witnessing widespread demand, with a strong response in Mangaluru as well, stated BSNL Mangaluru division general manager Hemanth Sadashiva Borale.
Speaking at a press conference, Borale said that BSNL's satellite phone services have received an excellent response. These services are proving helpful in areas where traditional mobile networks, broadband, or land-based communication facilities are unavailable. The service is highly useful in remote terrains, disaster management, emergency responses, and for critical communication needs. In Mangaluru, it is significantly benefiting the fishermen. Under this system, over 20 individuals have applied for satellite phone connections, and the verification process is in its final stages, he added.
Rural broadband expansion
Under the Bharat Net Udyami scheme, 35 BNU partners are actively working with BSNL in Mangaluru. These partners have set up 88 optical line terminals (OLTs) in rural areas and provided over 5,000 FTTH connections. This has substantially strengthened broadband availability in rural regions, successfully reaching the rural parts of Sullia and Kadaba.
Increase in customers
Prioritizing quality service, BSNL is actively expanding its 4G network. Borale mentioned that the BSNL 4G network will serve as the foundation for the evolution of 5G services and strengthen India's self-reliance in telecommunication technology. He also noted that the number of BSNL customers is increasing and measures are being taken to ensure quality service in rural areas.

BSNL SIM for Re 1
On the occasion of the nation's 80th Independence Day, BSNL is offering a new SIM card for just Re 1. This offer, which commenced on August 12, will be valid until September 12. Under this scheme, customers will receive unlimited voice calls, 1 GB of data per day, and 100 SMS per day for a period of 24 days. In addition, an annual plan of Rs 2,399 is being offered, which provides an extra 47 days of validity over the standard 365 days.
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, BSNL is also offering a special promotional scheme for new FTTH customers for a period of 90 days, starting from August 1. This is applicable to all telecom circles except Kerala. For customers in Karnataka, this offer applies to the Fiber Basic plan with a fixed monthly charge (FMC) of Rs 499. The calendar month in which new customers acquire the FTTH connection will be completely free, followed by a discount of Rs 100 for the first three months.
