Madhya Pradesh, Aug 15: Chitwan Jain secured All India Rank 17 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, proving that success in one of India’s toughest competitive examinations does not depend on an IIT or MBA background.

Jain cleared the examination after completing his BCom and has emerged among the top successful candidates. His achievement highlights how hard work and the right strategy can help aspirants from any academic background succeed in the UPSC examination.

Jain’s family is from Ashoknagar in Madhya Pradesh. He is the elder son of businessman Manish Jain, a resident of Soni Colony in the city. Coming from a simple joint family, Chitwan was academically strong from an early age.

He completed his schooling up to class 10 at a private school in Ashoknagar before moving to Bhopal for further education, where he completed his Class 12 examination.

After finishing school, Chitwan moved to Delhi and pursued a BCom degree. It was during his college years that he decided to pursue a career in the civil services.

Immediately after completing his graduation, he began preparing for the UPSC examination without taking a break.

Chitwan’s UPSC journey was not easy. He appeared for the preliminary examination twice initially but failed to clear it on both occasions.

However, he did not give up. He learned from each setback and worked to improve his preparation. On his third attempt, he appeared for the examination with a well-planned strategy and successfully cleared all three stages — prelims, mains and interview.

He secured AIR 17, placing him among the country’s top successful candidates. Based on his rank, Chitwan may be allotted the IAS service.

In an interview, Chitwan said that UPSC preparation requires not just hard work but also the right strategy. He said he never liked studying by rote.

Instead, he adopted a method of preparation that maintained a balance between smart work and hard work.
