Mumbai, Aug 15: Veteran Konkani singer, musician and composer Henry D’Souza, known for the evergreen Konkani songs ‘Ye Ye Katrina’ and ‘Ami Dogee Sezari’, passed away at 7.30 am at a hospital here on Saturday, August 15. He was 83.
Born in 1943 in Basrikatte in Chikkamagaluru district, Henry D’Souza migrated to Mumbai in 1965, where he established himself as a prominent singer and musician.
His songs ‘Ye Ye Katrina’ and ‘Ami Dogee Sezari’, scripted nearly five decades ago, went on to achieve enduring popularity among Konkani music lovers and continue to remain favourites even today.
During his illustrious career, Henry D’Souza composed and directed more than 2,000 songs and performed in several countries. He also rendered over 200 Konkani songs through Akashvani, contributing significantly to the growth and popularity of Konkani music.
Henry D’Souza passed away in Mumbai due to age-related ailments. His death marks the loss of a celebrated voice and an influential personality in the Konkani music fraternity.
He is survived by his family, friends and countless admirers who will remember him for his immense contribution to Konkani music.
Funeral Mass
The funeral Mass of late Sangeet Samrat Henry D’Souza will be held on Sunday August 16 at 4:00 pm at St Thomas Church, Railway Station Road, Goregaon East, Mumbai.
