Karkala, Aug 15: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Christ King Educational Institutions in Karkala in the presence of teaching and non-teaching staff, students and parents.

Indian Army veteran, Kargil War veteran and Sanoor Grama Panchayat Development officer Vishwanath was the chief guest. After hoisting the national flag, he said, “We are able to live a peaceful and secure life today because of the struggles, sacrifices and supreme contributions of our freedom fighters. We must always remember these great personalities. At the same time, we must also remember the soldiers who continue to make sacrifices for our country.” He called upon the youth to take a pledge to build an addiction-free and drug-free society and work towards creating a peaceful, prosperous and secure nation.

On the occasion, Vishwanath was felicitated by the institution by presenting him with a shawl and floral tribute.

Srirag D P, a first-year PUC science student, shared his thoughts on the significance of Independence Day.

Physical education teachers Krishnaprasad and Prakash Naik coordinated the programme. Primary school teacher Priya Sandeep welcomed the gathering, while PU College English lecturer Aarti compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.

PU college principal Lakshminarayana Kamath, vice principal Dr Prakash Bhat, High School headmistress Josna Snehalatha, senior primary school headmaster I Christopher Kotian, junior primary school headmistress Sr Jolly Jacob, and parent-teacher association presidents Nithish Shetty (PU section), Vishwanath Poojary (High School section) and Vanitha Shetty (Primary section) were present.
