Puttur, Aug 16: Based on reliable information about illegal timber being transported in a lorry in Keyyur, officials of the Mangaluru forest mobile squad conducted a raid, seized the timber logs and the lorry along with the accused, and registered a case.
The arrested accused has been identified as Ismail, a resident of Madavu. Without obtaining any permission from the forest department, Kiralu Bogi trees were illegally chopped in Nettaru and were being transported in a lorry. Acting on a definite tip-off, officials intercepted the lorry, which was heading from Bellare towards Puttur, at Santosh Nagar in Keyyur village. Upon inspection, the illegal transport of timber came to light.

The total value of the seized lorry and the timber is estimated to be Rs 5 lac.
Mangaluru forest mobile squad zone forest officer Santosh Rai, deputy zone forest officers Shivanand and Somanath, and vehicle driver Jayaprakash participated in the operation.
