Byndoor, Aug 16: A residential house belonging to a poor family completely collapsed early Thursday morning at Arehole in Navunda village of Byndoor taluk due to continuous heavy rainfall.

The house, belonging to Sadashiva Ganiga, suddenly leveled to the ground around 5:30 am on Thursday due to the force of the downpour. At the time of the incident, Ganiga and his wife were sleeping inside the house. Startled by a loud noise as the walls and roof began to cave in, the couple immediately rushed outside, escaping a major tragedy without any injuries. Household items and food grains stored inside were completely buried under the debris.

The family lives in abject poverty, and Ganiga is reportedly suffering from a severe illness. Due to his health condition, he is unable to go for any daily wage work. With a wife and two children to support, the family was already struggling to make ends meet, and the loss of their home has pushed them into deeper distress. Currently left homeless, the family members have taken shelter in a small rented house.

The village administrative officer and panchayat officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Although there is a possibility of receiving an emergency compensation of up to Rs 2.5 lac as per government regulations, the inability to immediately construct a new house under the Basava Vasathi Yojana has added to the family's worries.
