Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 16: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations have declared Monday, August 17, a public holiday in the district on account of Nagara Panchami.
According to a notification issued by the deputy commissioner’s office, the holiday will apply to all schools and colleges, educational institutions and government offices across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
The declaration follows the Karnataka government’s direction authorising the deputy commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi to take a decision on declaring a local public holiday for Nagara Panchami based on local circumstances.



In a press communique issued in this regard, the Karnataka government said it had examined the proposal submitted by the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner through letter No. DKDC-13011(12)/26/2026E-1254622/22 dated August 4, 2026, seeking a local public holiday for Nagara Panchami on August 17.
The government directed the deputy commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi to take a decision at their respective levels, in accordance with the rules, on declaring August 17 a local public holiday, based on the local circumstances in the two districts.
The communication was issued by Banadarangaiah N R, under secretary to government-1 (Protocol), department of personnel and administrative reforms (State Protocol).
