Ujjain, Aug 17: A stampede-like situation at the Mahakal Nagchandreshwar Temple in Ujjain on Monday left several devotees injured after a sudden rush broke out when barricades were opened, according to reports.

An injured devotee, Sagar, said he had spent several hours in the queue before reaching Harsiddhi Chauraha, where devotees were stopped during the aarti. He said the crowd continued to swell and the situation turned chaotic after the barricades were suddenly opened.

“The tent fell and all barricades fell too. Both of my legs were caught under the barricade. One of my legs is fractured,” he said.

Sagar also alleged that there was inadequate assistance at the spot and said a fellow devotee eventually carried him to a health camp, from where he was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Meenu, the mother of another injured devotee, said the incident occurred at Harsiddhi Chauraha as devotees were proceeding towards Nath Chandreshwar Temple for darshan. She alleged that her son became trapped under a barricade and received help only from another devotee.
