Woman Gangraped and Killed, Family Looted by Road Robbers

Patna, Mar 26 (IANS): A group of robbers waylaid a car on a Bihar road, gangraped a woman occupant before shooting her dead and looted valuables worth Rs.2 lakh from her family, police said Monday.

Robbers took control of the vehicle in which she and her family were travelling on Jamui-Sheikhpura road in Jamui, about 200 km from here, police said.

The woman in her mid 30s, a resident of neighbouring Jharkhand, was first gangraped and then shot dead, police said.

Naresh Prasad Barnwal, a close relative of the victim, said some armed road robbers forced their vehicle to follow them to a remote location Sunday night. "They looted us and gangraped and shot dead her," he said.

Barnwal said road robbers threatened them not to report the incident to police. "We were returning after visiting the historical site of Rajgir in Nalanda district," he said. According to police, the injured family members have been admitted to hospital for treatment.

Police have lodged a case against unidentified robbers. "No arrests have been made in the case," a police official said.

Police admitted that road robbers have created terror in Jamui in the last few months.
